Banana Ball Python Care & Temperament Guide
Share
Banana ball pythons don't require anything different from a care standpoint than any other ball python morph — the genetics affect appearance, not husbandry needs. Here's what to know about keeping one healthy and thriving.
Enclosure Basics
A single adult banana ball python does well in a properly sized enclosure with a secure lid, a temperature gradient running from a warm side in the mid-to-upper 80s°F down to a cooler side in the mid-70s°F, and a humidity range generally kept between 50-60%, with a bump up into the higher range during shedding. Provide at least two hides — one on the warm side and one on the cool side — so your snake can thermoregulate without having to choose between security and temperature.
Feeding
Like any ball python, banana morphs should be fed appropriately-sized frozen-thawed prey — mice for young snakes, moving up to rats as they grow. A consistent feeding schedule and prey sized to roughly the width of the snake's midsection is the general rule of thumb. Every banana ball python we sell has an established feeding history on frozen-thawed prey before it's ever listed.
Temperament
Banana ball pythons don't carry any temperament traits tied specifically to the color morph — personality varies animal to animal, the same as it does across any other ball python. As with all ball pythons, regular, gentle handling from a young age tends to produce a calmer, more confident adult. Ours are handled routinely from hatch day for exactly this reason.
Shedding and Health Checks
Watch for a full, clean shed in one piece, clear eyes, and steady weight gain over time as the basic markers of a healthy animal. Because banana's brighter coloration can make some skin issues more visible than they'd be on a normal-patterned snake, it's often easier to spot early signs of a shedding problem or skin irritation on a banana than on a more camouflaged morph.
